The 1st District Council has announced that the demolition of the old school building at 7 Gellérthegy Street (14 Naphegy Street) has begun after a valid building permit was issued for the residential building that will replace it.

Plans include a garage to be added underground. Two trees will be cut down during the construction and replaced with seven new saplings.

The Szent Gellért Catholic Primary and Secondary School operated in the building from 1993 to 2019.

The Council states that is has informed the contractors completing the work of the local regulations regarding noise. According to these construction and demolition work can only be carried out between 7–19 on weekdays and 9–15 on Saturdays. No such work can be completed on Sundays and other holidays.

The Szent Gellér Primary School currently operates not far from the old building at 3 Kosciuszkó Tádé Street, while the grammar school operates at 4 Krisztina Square in the 1st District.
