The renovation of plot 52 in the Nation Cemetary on Fiumei Street was completed earlier this year, after which the reburial of the remains of heroic soldiers who died in the world wars has begun - reads an announcement on honvedelem.hu. During the works, the plot was expanded and landscaped by clearing a former wooded, bushy area. New paving stones were laid, benches and lamps were placed.

According to the background material of the Institute and Museum of Military History, after the opening of the Fiumei út graveyard in 1849, the use of plot 52 on the eastern border of the cemetery began in 1875. The area has seen countless burials since then. The right to use the plot was transferred to the Ministry of Defense at the end of 2003 to provide a final resting place for soldiers who died a hero's death during missions or during their service, as well as the dead of the Hungarian Defense Forces.

On7 April 2010, the Ministry of Defense inaugurated plot 52 of the Fiumei út National Cemetary, the final resting place of the army's dead. The site is a central military cemetery and place of worship.

The plot was further expanded in 2012 when Section VIII was designated as a burial place for prominent First and Second World Wars soldiers. A cemetery for soldiers who dies heroic deaths in the world wars but are buried in unknown locations was also created in the parcel. Under the professional management of the HM Military History Institute and Museum, the plot gained a new image in 2020-2021.

According to the MTI, former Prime Minister Péter Boross attended the ceremonial inauguration of plot 52 on Sunday; István Kun Szabó, Military Advisor to the President, and Péter Harrach, Chairman of the National Memorial and Reverence Committee. In addition, Gábor Móczár, Acting Director-General of the National Heritage Institute, gave a speech.

On 19 June 2001, the National Assembly passed a law on Hungarian heroes and the commemoration of Hungarian heroes, according to which on the last Sunday of May every year – 30 May in 2021 – is a day of remembrance for the heroes of the past millennium, who have given their lives for the Hungarian homeland.
