The characteristic red and white vehicles are returning: on Saturday, 1 April, the cogwheel will start again. Trains on line 60 will run more quietly and reliably on the renovated track during the winter break, the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) reports on its website.

According to BKK, the weekday schedule of the cogwheel will not change, the Telefogas system introduced last year will remain early in the morning and late at night. The essence of this is that the vehicle operates in the early hours of the morning and late in the evening only when and on the section that was ordered in advance.

On weekends, trains will run every 15 minutes during the day, but if there is a reason for the increased traffic, then BKK will increase the number of vehicles. It is a novelty that this summer the open nostalgia train is expected to run several times between Városmajor and Széchenyi Hill. More details will be reported later.

The cogwheel railway, which is a public transport vehicle on line 60, was stopped on 3 October 2022 due to track renovation. The shutdown was originally supposed to last only until 17 November 2022. However, referring to the high energy prices, the Budapest City Council, the BKK and BKV Zrt. decided to temporarily suspend the route. The 12th District Local Council requested a review of the decision, and the citizens of the Hegyvidék collected thousands of signatures to save the cogwheel.

On 30 November 2022, the General Assembly of the Capital - as Pestbuda previously reported - unanimously supported the proposal of the 12th District mayor: the representatives all voted that they consider it necessary to restore the cogwheel railway to the scheduled traffic as soon as possible, but at the latest in April 2023. The General Assembly also decided to support the renovation of the cogwheel and the extension of its route.
