The sites of the Revolution of 15 March 1848 in Pest and Buda can still be visited today, and even some of the buildings that played an important role in the events are still there: standing in front of the National Museum, the Landerer and Heckenast Printing House, the Locotenential Council and the Táncsics-prison, anyone can recall the events.

The plan to build road tunnels under the Danube instead of bridges was seriously considered in Budapest already 130 years ago. Proponents argued that tunnels were cheaper, more sustainable and less militarily vulnerable. This idea was on the agenda for years, but the tunnels were not built in the end.

The renovation of the former downtown transformer house in the courtyard of the City Hall, the former Merlin Theater building, will begin soon. After the works are completed next year, the building will reopen as a cultural and community space.

Next year, the renovation of the area on the Károly boulevard side of the Central Town Hall, which was used as a car park, may begin. The results of last year’s design competition were announced today, with the winning plan to preserve the existing trees in an area of about 8,000 square meters, next to which new ones will be planted, a number of new benches will be erected and there will also be bumps. The renovation of Town Hall Park is expected to be completed by 2024.

On Pestbuda, we recently introduced the Mol Tower under construction, which will be the first real high-rise building in Budapest. It will be no real skyscraper, because we call that buildings with a height of up to 150 meters, and the Mol Tower, albeit just by a little, remains below that limit. High-rise buildings have been designed in Budapest for almost 100 years, and several architects would have surpassed the 96-meter-high height of the Parliament and St. Stephen's Basilica.

Homeless shelter in City Hall still a possibility?

The Budapest Government Office is to restart the procedures pertaining to the homeless shelter. The decision opens up the possibility for a temporary crisis shelter to be created in City Hall.
