Former palace of monument protection in Buda castle - The building on Táncsics Street has a new owner

There are many monuments in Táncsics Mihály Street in Buda Castle, including the Baroque palace at No. 1, which has played a special role in the field of monument protection: until its restoration in 1970, the National Monument Inspectorate and its successor organizations have operated here until recently. The building has now been sold by the Hungarian state, so it will be given a new function in the future. However, this is no stranger to it: during its long history, it had many different owners who used the palace built in the 18th century differently.

The round anniversary provides an opportunity to take an objective approach to the artist, who was imprisoned after the Hungarian Soviet Republic and then joined the Roman school in the 1930s and became more widely known through his sculptures of party leaders in the decades of socialism. His sculptures can be found in several places all over the city: with Bálint Balassi on the Kodály Körönd, with the female figure defying the wind on the Danube Promenade, or with the Raoul Wallenberg monument in St. Stephen's Park.

After the Second World War, many synagogues were left without congregations in Hungary. Ecclesiastical buildings left empty in several parts of the country were either demolished and their building materials used to renovate, rebuild other buildings, or were given other functions. The building of the synagogue on Dózsa György Road has not been demolished, it is still in communal use today - but differently than before.
Kalevala statue unveiled in Buda

The park bordered by Attila Road, Krisztina Boulevard and Szarvas Square was renamed Kalevala Park last year. A monument to the Finnish epic was unveiled recently.
Statue of Saint Stephen may be erected in Kispest, not Saint Stephen's Park

Budapest City Council to vote on the question of where a new statue of Saint Stephen will be erected on 30 September. The statue was originally planned for Saint Stephen's Park in the 13th District, but the proposal is to erect it on Templom Square in the 19th District. The Wallenberg Monument, the monument to Heroic Budapest Partisans, and a statue of Ferenc Fejtő currently stand in the park. The statue of the communist People's Commissioner György Lukács was removed in 2017.
