Puskás Arena has received yet another prestigious international award: it has won the special prize for the most beautiful sports facility at the Prix Versailles Architecture Awards, the MTI reports.

The Hungarian national arena was joined by facilities such as the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, the VTB Arena in Moscow and the al-Maktum Stadium in Dubai in its category – reads the announcement of the Budapest Fejlesztési Központ Nonprofit Zrt. ('Budapest Development Centre')

Balázs Fürjes, the government commissioner for the design, construction and operation of Puskás Arena, said: “The new Puskás was designed and built by Hungarians. We can all be proud of this achievement – it is a shared success story.”

This is not the first prize won by the arena. It received a Red Dot award for its visual public information system and visitor guide. The facility was voted stadium of the year in 2019 by a poll conducted on the  Stadium Database website and tied for second place in the judges' vote.

One of the largest arenas in Central Europe was opened a year ago with a Hungary-Uruguay football match. It has since hosted the European Super Cup, and the FTC Champions League matches.

Balázs Fürjes emphasised that 2021 will also be an exciting year for the arena: "In the summer the European Cup – with the pandemic hopefully behind us – will bring Budapest and Hungary into a fever, and the world cup qualifiers against Poland and Hungary will also be exciting.  Rock and roll will fill the stadium thanks to the world-famous Aerosmith. The 'This is the Day' Christian festival will also interest many, and several conferences, banquets and other business events are being planned in the arena,” stated the government commissioner.
