An emblematic building, the Mushroom at Móricz Zsigmond Square is 80 years old

Újbuda's emblematic building, the Mushroom [Gomba], is eighty years old this December. The traffic pavilion erected in 1942 at Móricz Zsigmond Square performed its original function for sixty years until the tracks running around it were demolished. The building remained unoccupied. By the time it came under the ownership of the 11th District Local Council from the capital, it was dilapidated, dirty, and unworthy of its architectural value and the atomic sphere of the place. A design competition was launched to save it, as a result of which the contemporary public space was born in 2014, which satisfies both elegant, functional and cultural needs.

Hugó Máltás is one of our lesser-known architects, even though he had an extremely long career and life: he died at the age of ninety-four, in 1922. The fact that his name did not enter the public consciousness can be attributed to his much more busy contemporaries, primarily Miklós Ybl. However, Máltás also designed quite a lot, especially during the period of Romanticism. A summary of his works is presented below.

The new leisure park has been completed in Máriaremete in the 2nd District, on the block of land that also includes the Dezső Gyarmati Swimming Pool and the József Pokorny Sports and Leisure Centre. The concept of the Community Park was developed back in 2018, and the residents of the neighbourhood were able to take possession of the area a few days ago, which also includes sports fields, a playground, a jogging track, and a fitness park.
The foundation stone of the synagogue in Újlak was laid 135 years ago

When the synagogue on Frankel Leó Road - then Zsigmond Street - was built, it was referred to as the Jewish church in Újlak. Its designer was Sándor Fellner, the creator of the Ministry of Finance in Buda Castle. The synagogue in the 2nd District is no longer seen as it was at the time of its construction since it has since been surrounded by a residential building.

A large section of a road from the time of Sigismund of Luxembourg, dating from the beginning of the 15th century, was excavated by the staff of the Budapest History Museum at the Buda Castle, in the area below the Savoy Terrace. Medieval and early modern layers can also be observed on the excavated road section.
The construction of the Margaret Bridge began before the city unification - piling began 150 years ago

The Margaret Bridge was the second bridge between Pest and Buda, the construction of which began 150 years ago, on 1 August 1872, even before the unification of the city. Many people criticized the designated location, but the government decided that the new Danube crossing should connect to the planned Outer Ring Road and through it to the Sugárút [Avenue]. The bridge was designed by a French engineer and built by the French company he founded, and was completed in four years.

The National Hauszmann Program covers not only the reconstruction of the buildings of the Buda Palace District, but also the renovation of the gardens surrounding them. Although it is actually logical, as the name of the street already suggests that the greatest lords of the country once appeared here, and a representative hall was built for them.
