The most significant hotel in Buda Castle is undoubtedly the Hilton. This is explained not only by the world-famous brand, but also by the size and panoramic location of the building. Barely a hundred metres away, however, the small Burg Hotel held the competition with its big rival for two decades. Like Hilton, it is a modern building as well, its predecessors destroyed in World War II. But now the area is once again undergoing a change: a partial demolition permit has been issued for the building, and work has already begun on the interiors.

Due to the ravages of World War II, Pest's Danube Promenade lost its former unique atmosphere. Modern hotels have been built in place of the old row of palaces, and the Atrium Hyatt has stood on the site of the destroyed Lloyd Palace since 1982, which today bears the name Sofitel. The hotel will soon receive a new facade, the building permit became final at the beginning of October. It can be read in the permit that the building will get a new level. Design renders have not yet been released.

At 40-48 Kazinczy Street in the 7th District, the area on which a 270-room hotel with a two-story underground garage can now be built was created by combining five lots. As part of the works, a section of the street will also be renovated, and the buildings currently standing on the lots will be demolished, so it is expected that the former steel-and-glass block of the Hungarian Dance Academy and the historicising house at 48, known first as a meat factory and then as a nightclub, will also be torn down.

The former Diplomatic House on Szentáromság square was demolished at the beginning of 2022, and a new conference center will be built in its place, the visual plans of which have already been presented. The plot was recently transferred to the property manager of the MNB.

An athletics hall with a 400-seat grandstand, a sports roof on top, and new swimming pools and a sports hotel will be built in the Alkotás Street block of the University of Physical Education during the second phase of Buda's largest university development. In addition, the historic garden is being reconstructed around the main building designed by the institution, designed by Alajos Hauszmann.

The Hilton Hotel, handed over 45 years ago, was built on the site of the city’s most beautiful Baroque monument, a Jesuit dormitory damaged in World War II. Only the western wall of the old building facing András Hess Square remains. Some say that the modern building has been incorporated into the castle environment, others believe that it disturbs the harmonious view of the Matthias Church and the Fisherman's Bastion with its huge block.

A 127-room hotel will open in the former Radetzky Barracks on Bem Square, expected in 2024. The historical 19th century building was almost completely demolished last year, leaving only the main façade overlooking the square.

The former legendary hotels of Budapest were almost completely destroyed in the Second World War and in the 1950s, and in the Rákosi era, no money was spent on building luxury hotels in the country, as there was no solvent demand for it. The situation changed after the defeat of the revolution and war of independence of 1956: tourists from the West and the currency they spent here became important to the country’s new leadership. Large-scale hotel developments began, among them one of the first was rebuilding the former luxury hotel, Royal, which reopened in August 1961.

The Almássy Square Leisure Center has been sleeping its (second) Sleeping Beauty dream for almost a decade. The former popular cultural institution was sold by the municipality of Erzsébetváros in 2007 and although the hotel building plans at the time did not materialize, an application for a building permit was recently submitted to expand and transform the building, 35 years ago known as the small Pompidou in Pest, to a hotel.
Hotel to be built on Kertész Street vacant lot

The 19th-century residential houses in the 7th District, 21 and 23 Kertész Street were sold in 2004 by the management of the 7th District in a case known as the Erzsébetváros real estate panama. Both buildings were demolished. Apartments were designed in their place, but the idea did not materialise. Now it turns out that a 254-room hotel is being built on the plot that has been empty for 15 years and has been operating as a car park.
