Lanchid renovation – Pedestrian underpass in Pest closed

The pedestrian underpass on the pest side of the river bridge will be closed on 16 April. The passage on the Buda sie will remain open until mid-June. Both pedestrian underpasses are to be widened as part of the renovation. While footpaths across the bridge are also closed, buses are free between Clark Ádám Square and Széchenyi Square. The reconstruction of the bridge is planned to last until 2023.

The railings of the Chain Bridge are being painted

They are already painting the railings and historical elements returning to the sidewalks of the Chain Bridge. A significant part of the bridge's 704-metre railing structure was remanufactured due to damage caused by rust. Eight arched parapet castings are reconstructed based on archival photos to match the appearance of the Chain Bridge in 1914-1915.
The Clark Ádám Square roundabout has regained its original shape

As of 21 November, the original, large roundabout can be used by those travelling on Clark Ádám Square, as the first phase of the square's restoration was completed over the weekend. The renovation of the Chain Bridge continues with the renovation of the sidewalks and the reconstruction of the historic elements.

The lions decorating the Buda bridgehead of the Chain Bridge have been beautified and returned. The four sculptures made by János Marschalkó were transported to a restorer's workshop last August, in connection with the renovation works of the Chain Bridge, from which two have now returned cleaned and repaired. Their final fixation takes several weeks. Citizens have to wait a few more weeks for the lions of the Pest bridgehead.

Due to the ravages of World War II, Pest's Danube Promenade lost its former unique atmosphere. Modern hotels have been built in place of the old row of palaces, and the Atrium Hyatt has stood on the site of the destroyed Lloyd Palace since 1982, which today bears the name Sofitel. The hotel will soon receive a new facade, the building permit became final at the beginning of October. It can be read in the permit that the building will get a new level. Design renders have not yet been released.

Sándor Kisfaludy's first volume, Himfy szerelmei - A kesergő szerelem [Himfy's Loves - The Bitter Love], published in Buda in 1801, was a worthy opening of 19th-century Hungarian literature. Kisfaludy, who described his passionate love life in lyrical form, became an influential scientist and writer at a young age and was elected a member of the Hungarian Society of Scientists and the Kisfaludy Society. With his support, his brother Károly Kisfaludy published his famous yearbook, Aurora, which promoted Hungarian literature. Sándor Kisfaludy was born 250 years ago today.
