The Ethnographic Museum, which will move from Kossuth Square to Városliget, will open with exhibitions in the spring of 2022, said Director  Lajos Kemecsi at the institution's press conference yesterday. As he stressed, two-thirds of the mass of the main building under Városliget is underground; the green roof on the arched roof will be part of the park and the institution will be a real meeting place.

The building has about 7,000 square meters of temporary and permanent exhibition space, which enables the most modern exhibition technology solutions, and the reception hall, which can be visited without a ticket, also houses a 2x40-meter ceramic space presenting more than 3,000 works of art.

In the new home of the Ethnographic Museum, a youth museum will be established on more than 1,000 square meters, but it will also include a conference and event space, research rooms, offices, a library, a visitor center, a restaurant and a café, as well as a cinema, warehouses and archives.

150 years after its founding, the Ethnographic Museum will now operate for the first time in a new building built for its own purposes. In connection with this change, the image of the institution was renewed, the director added. Its designers, Nóra Demeczky and Hunor Kátay, have developed a unified visual system, the four basic elements that can be highlighted from the logo's pattern can be easily varied and ensure the visual identity of the institution.
