Within the framework of the National Free time-Health Sports Park Program, Zugló was given the opportunity to build eight sports parks and two 200-meter running laps in the district. The cooperation agreement on the implementation was signed by the local council and BMSK Zrt. in August 2019 for seven locations.

Following the negotiations, the local council of Zugló decided at the last board meeting that the eighth venue would be the Butterfly Park, because the people living there had been promised a sports park years ago.

The park of thousands of square meters was created with the construction of a 1255-apartment housing estate built between 1962 and 1970, and was renovated between 2018 and 2019. Among other things, benches, bins and combined drinking wells were placed at that time and public lighting was built.

The sports facility, which is now licensed, will be type D by decision of the board, so it will have a floor area of at least 150 square meters and will accommodate a minimum of 15 sports equipment. At the same time, as the development of the Butterfly Park has already been completed by the time the construction of the sports field is possible, the works will involve the demolition and reconstruction of the renovated surfaces, of which the public will be informed.
