Government decree 1589/2020. (IX. 21.) published in the Official Hungarian Gazette on 21 September 2020 states that the government agrees with plans to pave roads without solid road surfaces within the administrative border of the capital. Five billion forints of funding will be provided for the project.
The Budapest Road Construction Plan was announced last year and aims to eliminate all unpaved roads in Budapest. The majority of dirt roads in the city can be found in the outer districts. When Greater Budapest was created in the 1950s, many of the districts attached to the capital were rather rural, and infrastructure development has lagged since then.
The development effort will lead to full asphalt coverage of Budapest roads by 2022.

In the constant hustle and bustle of the Egyetem Square in Pest, the students may not even notice the monument that decorates the short section of wall between the church and the central building of ELTE. However, it commemorates their predecessors, the heroes who fought for their country in World War I, and those who heroically helped them. The first design of the dramatically collapsing soldier was born in 1928, ninety-five years ago.
