The retaining wall named after the architect Miklós Ybl was erected at the end of the 19th century, due to the Western expansion of the Royal Palace and can be found on Castle Hill facing the Tabán – writes a social media page of the National hauszmann Program.

Running under Csikós Courtyard, the retaining wall is being restored as part of the National Hauszmann Program. The stone and brick elements have been cleaned, and the decorations restored following damage from weather, air pollution, and war.

Thus, a relief depicting the national coat of arms adorned with the Holy Crown of Hungary surrounded with the coats of arms of Dalmatia, Croatia, Slavonia Transylvania and Fiume (now Rijeka, Croatia), and the monograms of Franz Joseph and Queen Consort Elizabeth on either side. Following the restoration of the decoration the entire retaining wall will be cleaned, ensuring that the mortar will also return to a uniform colour.

In addition to the restoration, two new high-capacity lists are being added to connect the Tabán and Csikós Courtyard, providing easy access to the castle. The shell-shaped ornaments above the lifts are already clearly visible.
