The Flag Museum is saved: the material of the collection closed this year by the Józsefváros Local Council will be received by the Hungarian Museum of Trade and Tourism (MKVM) - wrote the announcement of the State Secretary for Culture of MTI Péter Fekete.

The Flag Museum, which has a unique collection in the world, was founded by László Balogh, who began collecting the flags and coats of arms of the countries and administrative units of the world in 1983.  His first exhibition was in 1994 at the Józsefváros Gallery (which the local council also closed in the spring, citing lack of money as the reason - Ed.).

The independent Flag Museum was opened in Szigony Street in 1995 with the support of the Józsefváros Local Council and the Józsefváros Cultural Center, and in 1998 the institution moved to the corner of József körút and Nap utca.

The entire collection consists of roughly 6,000, however, due to lack of space, only 200 flags could be exhibited in Józsefváros. The collection is now being taken over by the Hungarian Museum of Trade and Tourism. The inventory and scientific processing of the material of the Flag Museum will soon begin, after which the pieces of the collection will be presented to the public in their temporary exhibitions and on other surfaces.
