The renovation of Bakáts Square in Ferencváros is underway. According to the information available on the website of the district local government, the investment of 20,000 square meters will also cover the section of Bakáts Street from the square to Lónyay Street, as well as the part of Tompa Street to the Outer Ring Road.

Renovation of the square has been on the agenda for some time. The local government won support for the investment in 2016, in the TÉR-KÖZ tender, the planning and preparation started, and then the plans were modified. During the construction, the pavements, street furniture and green areas will also be renovated. We hope that the space will retain its unique atmosphere even after the renovation, the old plane trees and acacias will remain.

It is certain that after the renovation of the square the traffic order will change significantly. Car traffic will only be allowed on the longer sides of the square and parking will cease in the areas in front of and behind the church. Bakáts Street will become a pedestrian street in the section between the square and Lónyay Street, and parking spaces will be partially retained in Bakáts Street, which will become a cul-de-sac.
