The Government Office of the Capital City of Budapest has issued a new building permit for the construction of the cable car planned for Gellért Hill in addition to the currently valid permit expiring on 1 February, so the preparation of construction works can continue, said Imre Walton, Managing Director of Gellérthegyi SIKLÓ Kft.

Walton said that at the initiative of the local council of Budavár, in agreement with the local council of Budapest, several changes have been made to the technical content that make the investment even more environmentally friendly.

After taking possession of the area, landscaping work and archaeological excavations will begin, followed by actual construction, which is scheduled to take 13 months.

With the construction of the Gellért Hill cable car, a plan of more than a hundred years can come true - the announcement indicates. Gellért Hill can be connected to the bloodstream of the capital in an environmentally friendly way, they can ban tourist buses that burden the traffic of the part of the city and disturb the residents. During the high tourist season, an average of 350-400 tourist buses run on Gellért Hill every day.

The Gellért Hill Glider will be a 300-meter, multi-car, electric vehicle that travels from a foot of Gellért Hill to a planned lookout point in 72 seconds. The aim of the investment is to replace the tourist bus traffic and enrich the tourist offer of Budapest, they explained.

The company has previously stated that it is planned that the entrance to the cable car will open from an underpass in the Tabán area, under Hegyalja street. The vehicle will travel underground for about 100 meters to Orom Street, from where it will continue on a 3-4 meter high bridge structure above the surface to the upper station connected to the Citadel Promenade. The cabs of the glider will be able to carry 50 passengers, with a journey time of less than one and a half minutes, so the glider can take up to 1,200 people per hour to the top of Gellért Hill.
