The Hungarian National Museum (MNM) presents at least two exhibitions a year in the Southern Palaces of the Castle Garden Bazaar in accordance with the cooperation agreement concluded with Várkapitányság NZrt. On Tuesday.

The Castle Garden Bazaar, which is under World Heritage protection, was destroyed for decades, until, after a long period of neglect, the new building complex with its new exhibition and event venue could be renewed by 2014. Today, the Castle Garden Bazaar has undoubtedly become a decisive place in the cultural life of Budapest, said Gergely Fodor, the government commissioner responsible for the renewal of the Buda Castle District, at the Budapest press conference before the agreement was signed.

As he added, the aim of Várkapitányság responsible for the National Hauszmann Program is not only to reconstruct the historic buildings of the Palace District, but also to enable visitors to take part in high-quality programs. Related to this endeavor is the five-year cooperation that has just been concluded, during which the MNM will present at least two exhibitions a year in the southern palaces of the Castle Garden Bazaar, on about 1,000 square meters, Gergely Fodor explained.

L. László Simon, the director of the National Museum, emphasized that the co-operation that was starting now was especially important for him, as at that time he was able to manage the reconstruction of the Castle Garden Bazaar as a government commissioner. The co-operation opens a new perspective for the MNM, as the institution aims to attract the public to both the patinated building and the 17 branches of the National Museum, but also to step out of the usual environment and present themselves in new locations.

L. László Simon reminded that the exhibition of the First World War, dreamed up by Mária Schmidt, can still be seen in the Southern Palaces for a few months. He encouraged everyone to watch this exciting exhibition for months to come. The National Museum will be the first to present the exhibition World Hungarians 170: Hungary at the World Exhibitions 1851 - 2021 in the Southern Palaces from this autumn. The exhibition, which showcases the art treasures of 54 Hungarian and foreign collections, reviews the appearances and successes of Hungarians at the world exhibitions held so far, the director general said, adding that the exhibition is well connected to the Dream Dreams 20 exhibition, which opened on Monday at the Millennium.

In the spring of next year, MNM will present a really large-scale program. The exhibition entitled The Hungarian Bride will be held in two locations, in the museum building and in the Castle Garden Bazaar, presenting the changes in wedding customs in the Carpathian Basin from the Middle Ages to the present day through huge artefacts, L. said. Simon László.
