As previously reported , in the autumn of 2021, the Archikon architectural firm won a public tender for the renovation of the interiors of the Hunyadi Square exhibition hall (this company also planned the renovation of the Paris Courtyard and the Millennium House). A 6th district local council has now also published visual plans for the hall’s renewable interior.

After the renovation of the façade of the building, which was completed in 1897 according to the plans of Győző Czigler, was completed in 2019, the immediate focus was on restoring the interiors. The previous plans of the previous local council have since been significantly reworked, so the idea of an underground garage under the fairground has been abandoned and the designers want to create a kind of community space out of the building.

It is envisaged that the retrofits in the interiors would be demolished, thus restoring the original spatial structure, while saving the kiosk on the ground floor. According to the information published on the portal, the producer and seasonal market would be located in the central location, while several steel-structured kiosks would be set up in the side ships, which would be covered with a common walk-in roof, creating a kind of gallery.

Another important part of the renovation is the planned opening of the façade of the market hall on Sofia Street, at the same time making the surrounding streets pedestrian-friendly. As the goal is for the Hunyadi Square market hall to function not only as a market, but also as a community space, one of the goals of the designers is to be able to organize cultural events in the building.
