A government decree has recently been issued asking the Minister of Finance to provide the necessary amount (HUF 880,139,850) for the complex development of the building of the National Archives of the Hungarian National Archives at 4 Lángliliom Street.

Not only will the existing building be renovated, but it will also be expanded (source: mnl.gov.hu)

According to the recently approved plans, the existing building, designed by Lajos Tolnay in the 1990s, will be modernized and expanded into a complex. Within the framework of the investment, it will be possible to store the documents in the above-mentioned warehouses equipped with the most modern equipment from the technical point of view, and it will also be possible to research them.

Of course, they also thought about the employees of the Archives, for whom they will create a modern office environment tailored to their needs - according to the news uploaded to the website of the Hungarian National Archives, in which visual plans were also published.

The investment is part of the complex development of the Hungarian National Archives, which was decided in 2020. In addition to the modernization and expansion of the Óbuda building, the building of the National Archives in the Buda Castle, on the Vienna Gate Square, will also be renovated and expanded according to Samu Pecz's original plans. We have reported this before. According to the plans, the documents before 1867 will be kept in the building in Buda Castle after the investments, while the ones after 1867 will be stored in Óbuda.
