On Wednesday, 4 May, the last element of the new Southern Connecting Railway Bridge was put in place, so that three railway tracks cross the Danube, according to the announcement of the investor Nemzeti Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt.

They are reminded that the first bridge built as part of the investment could be taken over by the trains on 25 April 2021 and the second bridge on 11 December 2021. However, trains will not be able to cross the new bridge, which does not yet have a railway track. Thus, the next step in the construction is the railway and other works. The team of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics is expected to hold the test load of the bridge at the beginning of August this year. Following the successful test load, rail traffic will run on this newest bridge and in the middle, until the completion of the third track in the framework of the development of the Southern Railway.

The new Southern Connecting Railway Bridge plays an important role in the development of the Southern Circuit, so with the completion of the third bridge structure, the development reached a milestone. As reminded in the announcement of Nemzeti Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt., The aim of the development of the Southern Railway is to enable more suburban trains to travel between the agglomeration and the capital, thus gaining a greater role in public transport in Budapest. A further goal of the development is to create an alternative for car users by making suburban rail transport more competitive, thus reducing car traffic in Budapest.
