The majority of businesses in Budapest do not agree with the final closure of the section of the lower embankment of Pest between the Chain Bridge and the Elizabeth Bridge, according to the results of an online consultation of the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BKIK).

According to the announcement, President Elek Nagy was the first to inform Mayor Gergely Karácsony about the results of the survey. According to the announcement, 64 percent of more than 11,000 respondents opposed the plan; 69 percent say it will worsen the car traffic situation in the capital, and 61 percent believe that the planned measure will also have negative consequences for local entrepreneurs and the economy.

According to the information, the online questionnaire survey was conducted by the End of the Century Consortium between 13 and 31 May 2022. The online consultation questionnaire was available on the BKIK website and a total of 11,242 valid responses were received during the period under review.

The results of the internet opinion poll, mostly completed by entrepreneurs and their employees in the capital, coincide with the view of the chamber's experts that the planned measure could further impair Budapest's vehicle interoperability, create additional difficulties for and the proper care of one of you, ”the chamber indicated.

BKIK asks the decision-makers to take into account the opinions and aspects of the companies operating in Budapest during the development of the embankment, and to develop a concept that takes into account the interests of all actors in the capital, taking into account the direct and indirect effects. Therefore, the Budapest Chamber forwarded the results of the online consultation among the enterprises of Budapest to the management of the capital, and at the same time indicated its intention to participate in the professional negotiations.

Based on the results of the online consultation, it was also reported that instead of full closure, the periodic closure protocol used in recent years would be supported by two-fifths of respondents, but 56 per cent would not agree.

BKIK has indicated that it agrees with the resolution of the Hungarian Automobile Club disputing the planned measure of the capital, therefore it has launched an online consultation among businesses in Budapest. In the meantime, the National Transport Industry Association, NiT, which has about 4,200 members, has joined the initiative.
