Viktor Maderspach was one of the defining personalities of the Hungarians of South Transylvania. Hussar captain, engineer, writer, and famous hunter of the Southern Carpathians, also fought in World War I. Even after the proclamation of the Treaty of Trianon, he remained in Transylvania, on his own property, but soon had to flee his homeland, to the territory of present-day Hungary. On the pedestal of the statue, we can read the following about him: "He played a huge role in defeating the Romanian army that invaded Transylvania in 1916. In 1921, as one of the commanders of the insurgents in Western Hungary, he defended the city of Sopron and its surroundings. During the annexation of Northern Transylvania in 1940, he was seriously injured, which caused his death."
