On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of Anna Jókai's death, a memorial plaque was unveiled on Tuesday in the graveyard at Fiumei road, where the main entrance now houses the two-time Kossuth Prize winner is named after its president, the National Heritage Institute (NÖRI) has told MTI.
According to the announcement, Gábor Móczár, Director General of NÖRI, emphasized at the inauguration ceremony that Anna Jókai had set an example as the first chair of the National Committee for the Remembrance and Reverence (NEKB). He started the tasks of the National Cemetery with protection, and worked out the related regulations and procedures. He was instrumental in drafting a government decree on national mourning. The tombs of István Bethlen and Attila József were established during his presidency, and the mausoleum of Ferenc Deák in the tomb garden on Fiumei road was also renovated during this period, Gábor Móczár added.

“ Anna Jókai has always struggled consistently to capture everything that has been important or essential in our past in some way. For Anna Jókai, patriotism, Hungarianness, faith and morals were important, ”the NÖRI statement quotes the deputy chairman of the National Memorial and Grace Committee (NEKB) as saying. As Sándor Szakály pointed out, Anna Jókai worked as the chairman of the committee so that everyone who belonged to this nation and created something lasting would remain in our memory.
Anna Jókai passed away on 5 June, 2017, at the age of 85. He chaired the NEKB from 2000 to 2006.
