The Capital City local council will introduce a parking system consisting of four zone types instead of the current 27 types of parking zones, and will also raise parking fees - the majority of the Capital City local council decided on Wednesday, according to MTI.

The general assembly adopted the new parking ordinance with 22 yes votes and 7 no votes, according to which four zones are defined in the capital city, in zone A, parking will cost HUF 600 per hour, and the fee must be paid between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., in zone B The hourly fee is HUF 450 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., in zone C HUF 300 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., and in zone D HUF 200 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. You can park for a maximum of three hours in the ABC zones, in the D zone this is not limited.

Current parking fees range from HUF 175 to HUF 525. The new regulations will enter into force on the first Monday of September, i.e. the 5th. As part of the new parking system, information boards will appear on the streets, which will make clear the characteristics of each parking zone. In addition, the area of parking fee zones will increase by approximately 10 percent.

The majority of the general assembly did not support the amendment proposed by the Fidesz-KDNP faction, according to which, a practice that has been operating in the in districts since 2010, parking in the capital should be paid from 9:30 a.m. instead of 8:00 a.m. According to the rationale of the faction, the amendment was initiated so that parents could safely bring their children to school and kindergarten.
