The renovation of the M3 metro is coming to another stage: on 23 January, the Ferenciek Square and Deák Ferenc Square stations will be opened to passenger traffic, MTI reports based on the announcement of the Budapest Transport Centre on 11 January.

After the handover, people can travel from Kőbánya-Kispest to Deák Ferenc Square by metro, so the city centre, the M1 underground, and the M2 metro will be accessible from South Pest without having to transfer, they write. There is still a replacement bus running between Deák Ferenc Square and Göncz Árpád City Centre, and trains will not stop at Nagyvárad Square due to the renovation of the station.

On the day of the handover, 23 January, replacement buses will continue to run to Kálvin Square during the day, and from 9 p.m. onwards, people can travel to Kőbánya-Kispest by replacement bus according to the usual evening traffic schedule. During the day on weekdays, the metro runs on two sections, between Kőbánya-Kispest and Deák Ferenc Square, and Göncz Árpád City Centre and Újpest Centre. People can still travel between Deák Ferenc Square and Göncz Árpád City Centre with the M3, and between Nyugati Railway Station and Göncz Árpád City Centre with the M3A metro replacement bus.

On weekday evenings and weekends, the metro continues to run between Göncz Árpád City Centre and Újpest Centre, and people can travel between Kőbánya-Kispest and Göncz Árpád City Centre with the M3 replacement bus. Due to the renovation of the station, trains running between Kőbánya-Kispest and Deák Ferenc Square still do not stop at Nagyvárad Square. The area around the square can be reached by the M30 replacement bus from Népliget, the 2M and 24 trams from the city centre and Keleti Railway Station, and by foot from Semmelweis Clinics or using MOL Bubi bikes. There will continue to be alternative connections from the North and South Pest areas, bypassing the metro.

The reconstruction of metro line M3 began in the fall of 2017 on the northern section of the line. The renovation will be completed in the second quarter of 2023, it is expected that the metro will be fully operational from the middle of March, and from the middle of May, passengers will also be able to use the last renovated Nagyvárad Square and Lehel Square stations.
