Trains will be running again from 20 March on the entire M3 line, between Újpest Centre and Kőbánya-Kispest, but it is still not stopping at Lehel Square and Nagyvárad Square stations. The renovation of metro line 3 is expected to be completed in May.

The railings of the Chain Bridge are being painted

They are already painting the railings and historical elements returning to the sidewalks of the Chain Bridge. A significant part of the bridge's 704-metre railing structure was remanufactured due to damage caused by rust. Eight arched parapet castings are reconstructed based on archival photos to match the appearance of the Chain Bridge in 1914-1915.
Bicycle-friendly developments are starting in three districts

Public procurement tenders were announced for the development of the bicycle network in the 2nd, 3rd and 13th Districts. The works will start this summer, their goal is to increase the safety of bicycle traffic and to encourage cycling.

The Ferenciek Square and Deák Ferenc Square metro stations will be opened to passengers on 23 January. According to the plans, the metro will run on the entire line from the middle of March, and from the middle of May, passengers will also be able to use the last renovated Nagyvárad Square and Lehel Square stations.
The Chain Bridge will be opened on Friday: buses, taxis, motorbikes and bicycles can use it again

From 16 December, BKK vehicles, taxis, and people travelling by bicycle or motorcycle can use the Chain Bridge. The renovation of the bridge continues, including the reconstruction of the monument elements and the construction of the pavement. Pedestrians are expected to be able to use the bridge after the completion of the final stage of the renovation in the fall of 2023.
The renovated Blaha Lujza Square to be handed over this year

The renovation of Blaha Lujza Square will be completed by the end of the year. The technical handover started on 29 November, there may still be minor repair work, but pedestrians can take possession of the space this year. Eleven small-sized, so-called micro-sculptures were also placed on the seating surface of the plant cassettes. The works present the acting legends of the former People's Theatre then National Theatre in their iconic roles.
The Buda mountains will be easier to reach by bicycle from Pest

All four lions have returned to the Chain Bridge

The cogwheel railway will be shut down for the whole winter due to high energy prices

The operation of the cogwheel railway will be suspended until spring - this was decided by the Budapest City Council, BKK and BKV. The public transport vehicle, officially numbered 60, has not been running since 3 October due to track renovation, but the outage would have lasted only until 17 November. Due to high energy prices, they are now stopping its traffic for several months.
The asphalting of the Chain Bridge has been completed - the load testing can be started

The asphalting of the Chain Bridge, which is under renovation, was completed in a single day, on Wednesday, 9 November. The coating system for the edge of the roadway will be created after this, and the painting of the road markings remains to be done. The load testing of the Chain Bridge will take place on Saturday, 12 November, 24 20-tonne trucks will arrive at the site.
Eighty trees are planted on Blaha Lujza Square

The planting of trees has begun in Blaha Lujza Square, which is under renovation: a total of eighty new trees are being planted in the boxes previously created for them. In their surroundings, a skeletal soil was built to help the roots grow. It will remind people of the National Theatre, which was demolished and blown up in 1965, that the outline of the building will appear in the paving, and burgundy-coloured public furniture referring to the theatre's former chairs will be placed in the square. The renovation will be completed this year.
Trees, plants, street furniture: Podmaniczky Street within the Outer Ring Road has been renewed

The section of Podmaniczky Street in the 6th District between Teréz Boulevard and Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Road was renovated: the sidewalk became wider, new trees were planted, and a new traffic light intersection with three pedestrian crossings was established at Jókai Street. Bicycle lanes were created in both directions, there are fewer parking spaces and more vegetation.
Stone lions returned to the Buda bridgehead of the Chain Bridge

The lions decorating the Buda bridgehead of the Chain Bridge have been beautified and returned. The four sculptures made by János Marschalkó were transported to a restorer's workshop last August, in connection with the renovation works of the Chain Bridge, from which two have now returned cleaned and repaired. Their final fixation takes several weeks. Citizens have to wait a few more weeks for the lions of the Pest bridgehead.

First section of Pest's intertwining tram network completed

The first section of the Pest tram network development has been completed in Ferencváros. The development will support diversion efforts during the renovation of Metro line M3, as the 2M tram will provide a direct connection between Nagyvárad Square and the city centre.
Southern section of M3 metro line to be opened on 22 October

Renovation of the section began in April 2019 and was completed recently. Four stations of the line have been rebuilt. Its tunnels renewed, the track network, signals and safety systems modernised, alongside passenger information and other electrical systems. The renovated metro section will be opened to the public at 5 pm on 22 October. Following the opening the metro will again run the full length of the line but not stop at its central stations: Semmelweis klinikák, Corvin Negyed, Ferenciek tere and Arany János utca.
