The birthday of the National Anthem: the Ministry of Culture invites people to a joint recitation

On the Day of Hungarian Culture, 22 January, on the 200th anniversary of the National Anthem, 200 children, 100 from the motherland and 100 from abroad, will recite Hungary's national poem on the main steps of the Parliament. At the same time, one of the most important Hungarian poems of all time will be recited in four locations across the border, as well as in Ferenc Kölcsey's former residence, Szatmárcseke, and in Veszprém, which has been awarded the title of European Capital of Culture.

This year, on 22 January, the Day of Hungarian Culture, Hungarians celebrate the 200th anniversary of the National Anthem: on this day in 1823, Ferenc Kölcsey clarified the manuscript of the Hungarian national prayer in Szatmárcseke. On this occasion, the Ministry of Culture and Innovation (KIM) invites Hungarians to a joint recitation of the National Anthem, MTI reports based on the Ministry of Culture's announcement.

This significant anniversary is a reminder of the community-sustaining power of national culture, the preservation of Hungarian cultural heritage, the importance of its maintenance and protection, it is emphasised by the Ministry of Culture and Innovation. On this day, the Ministry of Culture would like to draw attention to the unity of the nation, the power of belonging to the Hungarian community, and to the fact that experiencing unity is the key to the survival of the nation, they added.

On the Day of Hungarian Culture, 22 January, from 5 p.m., after the state commemoration, 200 children - 100 from the motherland and 100 from abroad, symbolising the 200th anniversary - will recite the national prayer together with the President of the Republic Katalin Novák, on the main steps of the Parliament, MTI reports.

At the same time, the National Anthem will be recited at four locations across the border: Nagyvárad in Partium, Székelyudvarhely in Transylvania, Nagymegyer in the Highlands and Zenta in the south, as well as in the prominent locations of the commemoration series: Kölcsey's former residence, Szatmárcseke and Veszprém, which has been awarded the title of European Capital of Culture.

According to the announcement published by MTI, the MTVA broadcasts live from locations across the border and within the country. In its press release, the Ministry of Culture and Innovation encourages everyone, Hungarian communities and individuals from across the border and here, to join in the joint recitation after experiencing the sustaining and affirming feeling of belonging to the nation.
