The new church of the Soroksár–Újtelep Reformed Congregation was opened to the public on Saturday on Dinnyehegyi Road in the 23rd District – reports the MTI.

Pastor György Péterffy expressed his thanks to the Hungarian Government, which supported the construction of the church with 280 million HUF, and to all other organisations that supported the effort, including Soroksár Council and the Danubian Church District.

The land for the construction was donated by the Soroksár local council. The foundation stone was lain in 2009, while construction began in 2011. The parish was completed in 2015 and the now the church, designed by Tamás Rüll, has also been finished.

The floor area of the building is 500 square metres and contains several rooms: the church area itself, a hall for congregation events, a foyer, restrooms, rooms for babies and their parents, parish and pastoral offices.

The construction of a new church is always a joyous occasion, especially if its background is similar to that completed in Soroksár – quoted Szilárd Németh Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, from a letter written by Prime Minister Victor Orbán. The Prime Minister continued to write that it is a long-standing truth, that one values the things they are forced to fight more than anything else. Members of the congregation "fought for nine years to pray, receive the Eucharist, marry and baptise their children in their own church."

The Prime Minister continued that "those who had a common goal and the determination to fight for it (...) deserve at the very least, for their dream to become a reality." The Prime Minister wished the congregation uplifting moments of celebration in the new church and closed his letter with the motto of the Reformed church – Soli Deo Gloria.

In his sermon, István Bogárdi Szabó, President of the Synod of the Reformed Church in Hungary said that the new church tower proclaims to passers-by that a living community presides in the city district, which gathers to praise the name of God. "The tower calls us to God himself" emphasised the Bishop.
