Four stops will be rebuilt on tram line 50. According to an announcement made the Budapest Transport Center (BKK) to the MTI, the platforms will be made more accessible with ramps, and will be aligned with the new CAF trams height and length.

As announced, the preparation of the public procurement procedure has been completed, and a call for tenders has been issued for the conversion of the four stops on tram line 50. The project will be funded by the Budapest city council and the European Union and implemented by the BKK. Work is expected to finish this Autumn.

The platforms and furniture of four stops on tram line 50 – Kossuth Square, Árpád Street, Baross Street (platform in the direction of Béke Square) and Szarvas Csárda Square – will be renovated. The current stops, passenger waiting areas and furniture will be demolished and removed, following which the modern platforms will be built following a new geometric design, including new passenger waiting areas and information signs (sound system, and signs). The length of the platforms will be 36 meters, except for the Kossuth Square platform towards Béke Square, which will be two meters shorter.

According to the announcement, the surroundings of the stops will also be beautified. Existing platform lighting and public lighting will be modernised, road and pavements renovated, 39 new trees planted, and new green areas opened up. Utilities in the vicinity of the Árpád Street and Baross Street stops will be modernised, and track alignments completed along the new platforms.

Construction work will begin after the completion of the procurement procedure and the finalisation of a contract. BKK will provide information on the project and any expected restrictions in due course.
