The statue of György Szepesi, a Pulitzer Prize winner, Prima Primissima Prize-winning journalist and sports reporter, the legend of the Hungarian radio station and the symbolic twelfth member of the Golden Team, was erected in the 13th district Hajdú street recreation park on 4 February - the district local council informed MTI.

In 2020, the Board of Representatives decided to erect a statue on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its birth, the outstanding individuality of Hungarian sports history, Budapest and the 13th district, they wrote. Three creators took part in the invitation competition. The committee of experts recommended the application of the sculptor Mihály Munkácsy Prize winner, entitled "Twelfth Member of the Golden Team". According to the announcement, the mayor József Tóth quoted the words of György Szepesi in his ceremonial speech: The image of the old Angyalföld has not disappeared in me ”.

György Szepesi died on 25 July, 2018, at the age of ninety-six, and was laid to rest in the Farkasréti cemetery.
