The historicist style, six-story, former Central Pawn Shop located at 30-32 Lónyay Street és 12 Kinizsi Street was built in 1903 based on the plans of Samu Révész and József Kollár. The more than 21,000-square-metre building on a 4,590-square-metre plot was nationalised after World War II, and from 1951 it operated as a Consignment Store Company (BÁV). BÁV sold the valuable monument building in 2006, which remained empty for several years after that.

The Hungarian state bought the property from the then-owner in 2017, and in 2019 it was also decided that the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church will move into the building after a large-scale renovation. The goal was to reduce the fragmentation of the university, the number of rental properties and to place some of the faculties in a building that would ensure the conditions for modern education. According to previous plans, the 9th District monument building would serve as the new home of the Faculty of Law, the Institute of Psychology and the Rector's Office after the transformation and renovation.

As Pestbuda previously reported, on 12 April 2022, the call for proposals issued by the National Heritage Protection and Development Non-profit Ltd. (NÖF) for planning the transformation of the building on the corner of Lónyay Street and Kinizsi Street was published in the European Union public procurement notice.

However, in the EU public procurement notice published on 14 November 2022, it can be read that the public procurement procedure was declared ineffective. The National Heritage Protection and Development Non-profit Ltd. stated that due to circumstances beyond its control and that it could not foresee, it would not be able to fulfil the contract, as the government does not provide financial cover for state investments for the time being if the contract has not yet entered into force. Based on paragraph 4 of Article 53 of the Public Procurement Act, the procedure must be declared ineffective.
