Ice skating is one of the most popular winter sports done by many in Budapest. Few people know, but one of the busiest junctions in the country, Széll Kálmán Square, was once home to a famous and very popular ice rink in Buda with a huge, richly decorated skating hall. By the end of the 1930s, the square had been completely transformed and today we only have pictures and stories of the former famous skating rink and sports fields in Buda.

The construction of the new visitor center may begin soon in the 12th district, in the Költő street Jókai garden. Part of the work is the renovation and extension of the now ruined Villa Steindl and the refurbishment of the historic garden. It is certain that the Christmas tree appeared in Pest-Buda in the first decades of the 19th century, but it has not yet been possible to find out exactly who decorated the first tree. According to most sources, Countess Teréz Brunszvik played a major role in spreading the custom: on 24 December 1828, the children could have surrounded the Christmas tree in the kindergarten she had founded in Buda, in today's Mikó Street, but it is possible that decorated pine trees appeared earlier in the homes of aristocratic families.

In the middle of March, the Hungarian Money Museum and Visitor Center will open its doors in the former Postal Palace on Széll Kálmán Square. During the interior renovation of the building, designed by Gyula Sándy and erected between 1924 and 1926, the specially developed railings of the staircases and the oak gates decorated with wrought-iron handles were restored, and the paternoster was preserved in working order.

At night in Budapest, thousands of gas lamps once provided light, which had to be lit one by one by the lamplighters every night and then extinguished at dawn. The gas lamps lived their heyday in the second half of the 19th century, the first street gas flames in Pest were lit on today's Rákóczi Road 165 years ago.

The Chapel of St. Augustine of the Order of Premontre in Újlipótváros was renovated, originally built in 1950 from the former coal cellar of the building at 14 Pozsonyi road. The chapel was blessed at Mass on Sunday by Zoltán Márton Fazakas, abbot of Premontre in Csorna, who spoke of the fact that the chapel was like a catacomb for many decades, where people could only conceal their faith.

The 660-meter overpass above the BAH junction plays an indispensable role in the traffic of Budapest, as it is actually the gateway to Lake Balaton. The huge bridge was built 45 years ago, and since then tens of millions of people have crossed it to reach Lake Balaton or the Adriatic. However, the construction also came at a price: a total of 73 flats disappeared due to it, and the old customs house was also demolished.

The most prestigious balls of Pest in the first decades of the 1800s were held in Downtown, at 9 Váci Street, on the floor of The Seven Electors' Inn (Hét választófejedelem fogadó). Joseph II also stayed at the inn, 12-year-old Ferenc Liszt gave his first concert in Pest here. The audience could also admire the plans of the first permanent bridge between Pest-Buda in the Great Hall of The Seven Electors' Inn. The house was demolished in 1840, and the three-storey classicist residential house of József Hild was built in its place, which houses the Pesti Theatre nowadays.

The 7th District is a relatively young part of the city, it was separated from Terézváros in 1873, because that was found to be too large and too populous. The new district thus created became the smallest part of Budapest, but at that time it did not have its own name. We can see another part of the surroundings of the Budavár Palace in the same form as it was once created by the great masters of the turn of the century, the architect Alajos Hauszmann, the sculptor Gyula Jungfer, the sculptors Károly Senyei and Gyula Donáth. The renovation of the main square of Ferencváros, Bakáts tér, was initiated in 2016 by the 9th district government. Plans were made for 2018 and implementation was also prepared, but after the 2019 elections, the program was rethought, so work began only this year. The square was formed in the 19th century in Inner Ferencváros, where plants, benches, a drinking fountain, mill and chess tables are also installed.
